The information about, and NHS treatment for, personality disorders are severely falling short in most parts of the UK. I run an online site for people in the UK with BPD and most of their stories are the same...doctors dismiss them although they are a helpless cause or show no empathy towards their suffering. There is very little offered in the way of support unless/even if, they are in a crisis and virtually no follow ups are given. Many people with PD's feel put off asking for help in the lead up to a crisis as they are often told there is nothing anyone can do for them unless they have actually reached breaking point. I believe it is this treatment that also adds to the stigma attached, especially with BPD, as it may be the only time some professionals have contact with Borderlines. I would like to see more community groups set up, more information available for both patients and their families on self help techniques and how to deal with crisis situations and for GP's to have a better understanding of this section of mental health. I would love to get involved myself in my own area - Telford and Wrekin/ Shropshire, and help raise awareness but lack the support to do so.
