"Its about having to wait 2 and a half hours for an arranged appointment."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

I had an appointment to see Mr Erdman at 3. 20 on 10th Sept 2012. I left work three hours before my official finish time I arrived at the hospital at 3. 10, on entering the waiting area I informed the nurse that I needed to see Mr Erdman as a decision about my operation was to be made. I was still waiting at 5. 30 I needed to be home at 6 pm and there was a patient there, whose appointment time was before mine. . Mr Erdman had left around about 4. 30 I saw him leave the hospital. I was informed by one of the duty nurses that the registrar would see me but she or he had arrived arrived 45 minutes late for clinic. This didnt explain the two and a half hour delay, I left without seeing anyone to make it home for 6pm. I was asked by the nurse if she should make another appointment for me, I declined.

There was a 40 minute delay on my previous appointment and on the one before that I was seen by a registrar when a decision needed to be made that she didn't have the authority to act on. I had wasted my time and had to arrange more time off work to attend again.

I am now going to see if I can have my treatment at the Queen Elizabeth in Gateshead as I have had enough of poor services. I had arranged the appointment because I had agreed to an operation procedure and on consideration had reservations. I wanted to discuss alternatives with DR Erdman I am not sure that a registrar would have been able to help me.
