"Mixed bag."

What I liked

When arriving on the labour ward me and my partner were greated very politly by a midwife and her student. We were made comfortable and treated with great respect until it came to me being involved in my care. I asked for my waters to be broken on four seperate occasions with no explanation as to why this could not happen being given. As the pressure was becoming unbearable to the point i could no longer stand to get to the toilet and when i asked for a commode i was promptly told the labour ward did not have that facility avaliable. As the birth progressed my baby,s heart rate dropped and the emergency cord was pulled when the team of what seemed like hundreds arrived. The doctor in charge was rude would not listen to me or answer my questions even when i expressed that i was in pain when having stitches as i could feel every one i was told to stop being silly. My partner was physically shoved out of the way and unable to reach me or speck to me which was very distressing for us both and to top it off the door of the delivery room was left propped open for all to see. Once upon the ward again although the students and healthcare assistance were wonderful the trained staff were rather ignorant and thoughtless.I was woken after 20 mins sleep and informed that if i did not breast feed my baby now then they would bottle feed him but i had fed him only an hour before and he was asleep, no explanation given as to why they were giving me blood thinning injections to take home as on the advice leaflet it stated that it was not recommended for breast feeding ladies and if i had not asked the lady doing the hearing test as to why she had not tested my son dispite testing all the babies in my bay she told me well your not going home today so its not vital that it be done. Charming!!! But one positive thing was the eleven o,clock stop if it had been avalible when i had my first child i would have been a lot less nervous it was fab.

What could be improved

Improving the way all trained staff treat and communicate with patients and there families

commodes on labour ward would be good even if its only one and more respect shown for people emotions at a very stressful yet rewarding time in there lives.
