What could be improved
Care and communication
Anything else?
My mum was put on a ward with 4 other people at william harvey hospital, ashford, couldnt breath or talk was always sleepy. The lady next to my mum had to buzz the nurses everytime my mum was choking because my mum could not do it herself, I believe my mum didnt have the appropriate care, more could have been done for her. She deteriated quickly and we requested for her own side room, which she got. On saturday 30th june me, my father and my sister had to speak to a consultant and she told us there was nothing more that could be done for my mum as she wad not redponding to any medication, so she asked if the machines could be turned off. My dad asked if he could speak to my brother from new castle and let him come say good-bye first. She agreed and said she would come back at 2pm on 2nd july 2012 yo speak to us. When we arrived at 2pm the machines we're already turned off and the consultant was not around to talk to us. When a nurse came in she explained that a consultant told them to turn machines off on 1st july 2012 after family had left. If this was the case why was the next of kin or a family member not informed. My mum sadly passed away on 2nd july 2012. We feel poor service and communication was partly to blame. If my mum had more proper care in the first place, she might still be here.
"care and commumicatio is appauling"
