What I liked
Nothing
What could be improved
I was admitted to ward 15 at 3:30pm. I was sat in a corridor and later laid on a sofa, squeezed in to what was once a cubicle but was clearly now a storage area, with several other people. I was not allowed a drink, and the requested pain relief was never given. I was finally seen at 00:30am! At that point the doctor didn't listen to word I said and proceeded to check the completely wrong area of my body. I asked for a blood pregnancy test as well which they said they would do but didn't. They didn't tell me they hadn't and proceeded to x-ray me and give me very strong painkillers, when for all they knew I could be with child! The next day at 9am I was told by an obnoxious doctor that there was nothing "medically" wrong with me and I was diagnosed with none specific back pain. Given that I had pain in my pelvis and I knew what the problem was, they also wrote this in my medical file, they still diagnosed me with something completely irrelevant and they had the audacity to put a question mark next to the diagnosis! He was also rude when I burst into tears and came up close, inches away from my face, and said "even if we could give it a name (what was wrong) it would still be the same treatment. He told a trainee who was with him that they had better refer me to rheumatology. After staying in the bed all day with no news, thinking that I would see rheumatology that day, I asked a nurse what was happening at 3pm. She said I had been discharged. Why they never told me earlier, I don't know. The nurse said at that point "I don't mean to be funny, but are you stressed?" I said I was not, my life was going brilliantly and I just wanted to know what was wrong with me. Her expression changed then, almost a realisation that there was something wrong with me and I wasn't making it up.
Anything else?
I was appalled at the treatment on this ward. I was basically told that there was nothing wrong so it must be in my head. To top it off they were allowing visitors to the patient next to me at 3am!! Having spoken to several people later, including those in another department, it would seem Ward 15 has a very bad reputation for the treatment of patients. I for one will be making a formal complaint, because their lack of listening skills wasted several months in my diagnostic stage and I am left disabled because I was treated quick enough, Had they listened to what I was saying I could have been better by now because I was telling them what was wrong and my own diagnosis was correct. Instead I am now in a wheelchair.
"Absolutely appalling treatment."
