"good standard of care,improvement in..."

About: Alexandra Hospital

What I liked

Operation was carried out well.good comunication with doctors and admissions staff.

What could be improved

Hospital seems top heavy with administration,a lot of time spent asking same questions, could do with streamlining,ie.when discharged by doctor at 9.15am he said await paperwork, this took untill 14.15pm.I would have thought that they wanted the bed.Communication between people seems a area of concern,my op time slot was moved from 1st down to a pm time slot, not having a drink since 5.30am i tried to get a answer to my request for a drink,i was told that they would need the ok from a doctor.Having waited 7hrs i was feeling dehydrated and had a headache, after going to see a nurse i was put on a drip.Nurses seem very busy on other none patiant care duties which is a unfortuate sign of the times. They have to do multi functions which puts a strain on resources.

Thank you for raising your concerns via the website. I would like to apologise for the distress caused to you by the change of operation time during your stay with us. This does happen occasionally as sometimes patients need to be moved up the list for clinical reasons though obviously we endeavour to keep these alterations to a minimum. It is correct that a doctor would need to make the decision concerning you having a drink once your slot was moved. I would expect my staff to pursue an answer to this query or find a suitable alternative to prevent you suffering the dehydration headache you experienced. Your comments will be discussed at our next ward meetings. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your stay with us further please do not hesitate to contact me via switchboard, 01527 503030.
