About: Royal Bolton Hospital

What I liked

The hospital appeared to be clean. you are assessed quickly by the

nurse.

What could be improved

Waiting time in childrens a&e to see a doctor is ridiculous.

My son had an minor injury so couldnt understand why the asessment

nurse couldnt deal with it ie stop the bleeding until the doctor

sees him. had to wait nearly 2hours for a doctor whilst my 18month old still

bleeding from injury. He was hungry, gone past his bed time and started

to get cranky so decided to discharge him in the end praying a scab would quickly form to

stop the bleeding.

But looking around the waiting room there were lots of parents with children with

more severe injuries also waiting for hours. This was the first time i had to

visit a&e for my son an hopefully the last. They dont even provide a waiting time to give

an idea of how long to wait.

Sorry you felt that you had a bad experience when you attended the Children’s A&E department with your son. All children are triaged by a nurse and assessed as to clinical priority. I am sorry if the waiting time was not explained to you but this is quite difficult to predict as it is dependent on the children’s presenting clinical conditions and attendance numbers.
