"Overall quiet good but I never want to go near..."

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

What I liked

The staff worked hard in difficult conditions with limited ressources.

Every effort was made to accommodate family and friends

Medical checking was carried out consistently and gave reassurrance

The morning rounds kept the patient informed

Visits to X ray were brief with minimal waiting time

My abnormal reaction to the GA was investigated promptly and in depth

Physio would not release me until satisfied about my ability to use crutches

What could be improved

I received no personal hygiene from admission on Tueday evening until Thursday morning

Fractured leg bed bound

Urine bottles were rarely emptied unless a special request was made, new bottles were not automatically provided

In ward 12 the response to the alert button ranged from 3 mins to 30 minutes

!n ward 15 the response averaged 2 mins

In ward 12 the nightime noise levels were very high, staff appeared to make no effort to speak softly and most of chat was social content

Ward 15 was much quieter

The alert buzzer was a major contributor to lack of sleep

Anything else?

Disagreements among NHS staff were heard now and again
