About: Cumberland Infirmary

What I liked

After being under Newcastle Freeman Hospital for 3 months, presenting with inability to pass water, and having two biopsies failed to be carried out (due to number of patients apparently!) then Hexham Hospital for one failed biopsy, I asked to be referred to Carlisle Infirmary. I attended on 13th January 2012, seeing a consultant, Urologist. I had my biopsy the following morning (a Saturday!). Within one month, I'd had an MRI scan, a bone scan, and was placed on hormone therapy to control prostate cancer (gleeson 4+5) tumour T3. My standard of care has been exceptional, and I would like to congratulate and thank not only the sonsultant, and the nurse specialist for their patience and thoroughness in my care. Not only them, but all the staff I met at Carlisle, including receptionists, canteen staff have been friendly and helpful, I found I was treated as an individual at Carlisle, not as a number as seemed to be the case at the Freeman Hospital , where I appreciate they have a lot more patients to see to, but feel Carlisle look after you far better.

What could be improved

At Carlisle - nothing!

Anything else?

Would highly recommend Carlisle to anyone!

Firstly, thank you for getting in touch and we apologise that it has taken us sometime to respond. We have just changed the way we do this to improve and be more timely with our responses. Thank you so much for this fantatsic endorsement of the Cumberland Infirmary and the care you received there. we are very much aware of how frightening it can be when you have to have so many tests and are not sure is happening. The professional attention that you describe in your note is exactly what we’d want every one of our patients to receive, every day. We are very proud of our teams and their commitment to provide the best possible care at all times and we are also very grateful when patients and families take the time to give us feedback. It gives us the opportunity to pay a lot of attention to what really matters.
