"Excellent care by staff with high standards of..."

About: The Great Western Hospital

What I liked

I brought my daughter to A & E who was suffering severe abdominal pain.

Triaged in 5 minutes and moved to a cubicle. Lovely nurse came and introduced herself, explained the Dr would be along soon.

Short while later Dr arrived, took full history and ran blood tests. In the meantime my daughter was asked to take the painkillers she had been supplied with by a different hospital we had visited but sent home after blood results normal.

Minutes later my daughters pain intensified and i called for help. The nurse and Dr returned and gave morphine. The blood results were normal again but the Dr thought outside the box and decided to admit for further observation.

My daughter was subsequently diagnosed with biliary colic/gallstones - unusual for someone so young.

Anything else?

I would like to say thank you to the staff at A & E - in particular the Dr and nurse looking after my daughter. Later another another nurse in ambulatory care was also extremely kind and was concerned about my daughters pain.

This resulted in her eventual referral to general surgery team and a stay on the wards where again, I can only express my gratitude for the excellent care and kindness shown towards us in all respects.

The staff we encountered represent the excellent reputation this hospital deserves. Thank you.

Chocolates on their way!
