About: Royal Bolton Hospital Royal Bolton Hospital Bolton BL4 0JR
What I liked
I really liked the trainee nurses that I mat during my stay. They seemed to care and be interested and they all seemed to show empathy, a quality that I found lacking in some more experienced qualified nurses and doctors.
I also had the experience of meeting and talking with 3 different doctors, 2 of whom were really caring, considerate and informative. I don't believe that the hospital can be judged on an individual, however my bad experience with one doctor, made everything worse for me.
What could be improved
The experience that I had with one particular doctor. I would say he left his manners at home that day. He did not believe anything I said, his questioning manner was accusing and he even rolled his eyes at one point. He was curt and rude, as well as uncaring, especially since I had to admit to being a smoker. This made all the difference. His body language and facial gestures confirmed to me that whatever was happening to my body was indeed deserved. he was obviously a person who was not going to give me much consideration.
To improve this I would suggest that training be given on being non-judgmental of patients, who may have smoked, self harmed, become alcoholics, or suffer from ocd's, are depressed, anxious or whatever. There are always other concerns / reasons why people do what they do, and usually it is something that needs help. Hence that is why they go to hospital in the first place.
People's personal problems may manifest themselves in a physical illness, surely much better to be aware of root causes, then the symptoms can be treated with true respect.
If you would like to know more about the person, please contact me. I would not dare complain, just in case I need to be in hospital in the future.
