"5 stars for quality of care"

About: St Albans City Hospital

What I liked

I was admitted to De La Mare ward on 30 June 2012 at 07:30 am for a large anatomical hernia repair, I’m not afraid to admit I was rather nervous and anxious but was immediately put at ease by the very warm and reassuring staff on duty. I was exceptionally well informed about all aspects of my treatment; all the staff were wonderful and worked exceptionally hard in ensuring I was as comfortable as possible during my stay. I can’t fault it, nor can I think of any way you could possible improve the quality of care I received. 5 stars from me.

As the Trust’s Director of Nursing, I wanted to personally say thank you for airing your patient experience through our NHS Choices page.

It is so gratifying to hear that, considering your understandable anxiety, you felt immediately put at ease and reassured of the treatment process that you were about to embark on.

Clearly, it was the communication skills of our staff that went a long way to making you as comfortable as possible, and ensured you came away with such a positive impression of your whole experience with us.

Our staff are working hard to provide this level to all of our patients, so this recognition will truly give them some added motivation. We'll be sure to pass your kind words onto the clinical staff in the Day Surgery, who will no doubt be delighted to receive them.

Best wishes,

Natalie Forrest

Director of Nursing, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust
