What I liked
Today I suffered bad chest pains and called 999 as I was worried I was suffering a serious health problem. The ambulance arrived extremely quickly and both of the ambulance staff were polite, friendly and caring. Despite it becoming apparent that my pain was not life threatening in any way my condition was treated with respect and seriousness. I was taken to A+E and was very promptly seen and tested. The doctor dealing with my case was particularly helpful. She listened to everything I had to say and gave me time to explain my symptoms fully. When I struggled to find the correct words her compassionate and caring approach helped me to articulate everything that I needed to. Despite my condition not being as serious as I had originally feared, the doctor was at all times concerned not only with treating my symptoms but also in carrying out all necessary tests to provide re-assurance for myself. Once it became apparent that my problems were abdominal and not chest related, potentially embarrassing or awkward examinations were treated in a compassionate and professional manner that put me at ease. Every stage of the process was fully explained to me and prior to discharge the future course of follow up tests was made very clear and understandable. Despite me feeling that I had wasted valuable A+E resources due to this being a false alarm, I was reassured and not made to feel uncomfortable in any way. The doctor who had been looking after me even took the time to walk me to the exit rather than pointing the way. I cannot speak highly enough of the care that I received. As much as it ever can be in these situations, it was a pleasure to spend time with the staff of this unit and would consider myself fortunate if placed in their care if the situation arose again. I did not choose to attend this unit, but am extremely grateful that I ended up at North Tyneside A+E department. No pun intended, but I offer you heartfelt thanks
What could be improved
I was not unhappy about any of the care I received.
"All of the staff and doctors at A+E provided first..."
