"My experience was great."

About: Northwick Park Hospital

What I liked

I had my baby at NPH in March 2012. My experience was very good. I was admitted to the birth center at night. The midwives were very friendly and understanding. I had no issues at the time of admission. After 6-7 hours in the birth center, I decided I wanted an epidural. They were very prompt in arranging my transfer to the delivery suite. Midwives on the delivery suite were also very friendly. The morning shift change was also very smooth and we were not left alone at any point. They monitored me continuously, kept explaining the progress and answered all my wierd questions. The doctors kept coming after regular intervals to assess me. Later it was established that I would need a c-section because of failure to progress. This was also handled very well. Every detail was explained to me in a very comforting manner. I just didnt feel it was an emerygency c-section. The post natal experience was good too. Every time I rang the bell, I was attended to. The midwives were very helpful. My discharge was very smooth too. Also, before delivery I was admitted to the ante natal ward for 2 days for bleeding. The staff there was also very good. I was taken care of very well. So all in all, I was everywhere - ante natal ward, birth center, delivery suite, operation theatre and post natal ward - and this covers all the places one can be in for child birth. My overall experience was very positive and I was very relaxed throughout. 5 stars!

What could be improved

The post natal ward was too warm for the kind of weather then. All the people, including the midwives agreed that the temperature was too high. This is something that seems pretty much rectifiable and the authorities can help correct it.

We were pleased to learn that you had such a positive experience within the Maternity Department. Your kind comments, as well as your feedback on the temperature on the postnatal ward, will be passed on to the staff within Maternity Services.
