What I liked
My 2 year old daughter was admitted to ICU with pneumonia and empyema and was very ill. The staff on ICU were fabulous in every way, explaining everything and ensuring my and my husbands comfort as well as attending to my daughters every need. The nurses even arranged for me to have a scan at RHH as I was early pregnant and was having pains. As a nurse myself I am amazed how professional, knowledgable and caring all the nurses were whilst looking after such ill children, especially as many of them were only young.
My daughter was then transferred to M1 ward where again all staff were friendly and professional. I would like to thank them all for saving my daughters life!!
What could be improved
I feel the hospital could do with updating in some areas, as it was quite dingy. Obviously parking is a big issue in this area. I found it was quite noisy at night on the ward, which sometimes could not be helped, but at times nurses made no effort to be quiet. After being transferred from ICU to a ward area, I felt that parents needs were not considered as much on the ward. I stayed for 3 weeks with my daughter and hardly had any sleep, as it was so noisy at night and there was nowhere I could go to rest when my family arrived. Also the restaurant was lovely, but i feel there could have been some catering facilities/vending machines on the ward for parents as when she was very ill, I couldnt leave her so was unable to get anything to eat until my husband came.
Anything else?
Overall a fantastic hospital with staff that are second to none!!
