"Would stay there again, but would speak out if..."
About: Queen Alexandra Hospital Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth PO6 3LY
What I liked
Stayed on D5.
Night shift matron and day shift matron agued on hand over in clear ear shot of patients about whos fault it was about the number of staff on duty.
Night staff were so loud in everything they were doing that no one got any sleep at all, they had equipment of some kind running at night "sounded like a tumble dryer" loud bangs and crashes.
OBs were only taken on day and night of surgery never on day of discharge, dispite my concerns to staff that i was feeling unwell, told i was being discharged at 2pm wasnt til gone 6pm that i was wheeled out by a family member.
No post op care advice was given about what to do if you feel unwell "abit late anyway you sent me home feeling ill" about wound care.
Ward very clean, lots of room between each bed "more privacy" only four beds to a ward and own bathroom.
What could be improved
Staff should listen to patients more when they tell them they feel unwell.
Stop arguing in ear shot of patients, take it to a room and shut the door!
Give more advice on what to do if you feel unwell once at home.
Have more nurses rather than agency nurses, who have to be told what to do and how to do it!! doesnt make a patient feel very safe in their hands.
I know hospitals are a very busy place, have patient turn around limits, but that shouldnt be put before patient care,
