"Macmillan Dales Unit - Very professional, caring..."

About: Harrogate District Hospital

What I liked

I have had very bad experiences at this hospital in the past and usually try to only go for my emergency care. Due to my various health problems worsening I was unable to go to another hospital in the area to be seen for a problem with moles on my skin bleeding and itching.

It did take a while to get an appointment but the appointment staff were helpful in how to get my appointment brought forward as I was concerned my skin cancer had returned.

Once at the Dermatology clinic was seen by a woman consultant and her team. I was chaperoned by a nurse as I was quite nervous at a male doctor possibly seeing me even though I had asked for a female. Nothing was too much of a problem.First seen by a junior female doctor my concerns were answered, my skin examined and at no time did I feel I was put down or my questions were not important. The consultant soon arrived after seeing another patient and again I was reassured about my concerns.

After the consultation was over and I was getting dressed again I was asked by the nurse if I would like help getting dressed. As I am disabled I do struggle to do this, but when I have been at other clinics previously in this hopsital I have never been asked by a nurse if she could help me. Leaflets given on how to check and also told about The Skin Foundation which removes certain skin problems at a cost. Both very helpful.

What could be improved

Less time waiting for an appointment as by the time mine came through I had got very anxious thinking my skin cancer had returned .

Anything else?

Also tried Herriots restaurant as my appointment was near lunchtime. Food very good choice and cost very reasonable for being a Trust member but if you weren't there is not many places in Harrogate I have been to that you can get a roast dinner, veggies and yorkshire pud followed by a pudding for just over £6 approx for non member and £5.50 approx for Trust members.

Noticed restaurant was being used a lot by the public as well as staff. The salad bar and freshly made baguettes while u wait looked really nice too.
