"Treated with care and genuine respect by..."

About: Freeman Hospital

What I liked

Being treated with respect by all the staff on ward 29. Being treated as aperson not just a number. I have been treated for bronchiectasis for over 30 years now and have been admitted over the years several times. Since being able to carry out my IV treatment at home my quality of life has improved. I was shown how to do to this whilst an inpatient and once the staff were confident I was competent then I was discharged to carry on the treatment at home. No more lengthy stays in hospital,I would recommend more patients are instructed on how to carry out IVs at home.

What could be improved

Pharmacist time having prescriptions made up. Sometimes you have to wait up to 4hours for your medicine once you have been given the go ahead to go home.

Anything else?

Why has there not been more money given to research bronchiectasis? Earlier diagnosis and more information given to suffers at an early stage could help people manage the disease and prepare themselves on what to expect as the disease progresses. Diet, exercise, mental health etc.

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback and ratings regarding our service. Our staff aspire to the highest standards of care at all times and we are delighted to hear that you felt this was achieved by the staff concerned. Your comments have been passed to the manager and matron who will ensure that they are shared with staff who will be greatly encouraged by your feedback.

Please accept our apologies for the delay you experienced with discharge medications. The Charge Nurse, Ward Pharmacist and medical staff are working together to review the process to ensure it is as efficient as possible, given the complexity of drug regimes and high volume of patient discharge drugs in this area.

With regards to research into bronchiectasis the Trust has a high research profile and is continually working to improve patient care through research, having successfully led many research initiatives in recent years.

Thank you once again for taking the time to comment.
