What I liked
As I was admitted to Ward D46 I was very apprehensive, not least for the fact I was to undergo radical surgery the following day. From my first contact with the medical staff I was impressed by the professional way I was dealt with but, and this is the clever part, with an empathy and great balance of humour that relaxed me almost immediately. This, regardless of the pressure the staff were under, and it was intense at times, never wavered.
On the morning of my operation I was visited by the consultant, who was to carry out the procedure, and they spent time talking to me, answering questions, as well as offering reassurances. Their approach was perfect for me, given their assured manner, which was balanced by a lightness in delivery that is often lacking with Consultants. The Anaesthetist also spent time separately with me and was a great help.
Post-op the attention I received was measured and caring and for me that balance was crucial. Nurses do not always get the best of appraisals from the media but I found each and every one who dealt with me to be absolutely brilliant.
I never felt isolated or was made to feel in any way a nuisance, regardless of how many times I needed the nursing staff''s help. All in all the care I received undoubtedly helped my recovery and I have nothing but praise from the cleaning staff, all the way through to the
Sister(s) on Ward D46.
Thank you very much.
What could be improved
