What I liked
Compared with a previous stay in the main hospital the Princes Wing was a vast improvement. It was clean, organised, self contained but most of all the nursing teams were superb. I was treated with respect and care and the 3 of us in a 5 bed ward were in good spirits thanks to the nursing staff for the 4 days. They did their job well but it was how they did it that made a difference. Always helpful, quick to respond and smiling and laughing made us feel good. The Physio support was excellent right outside the ward and they were available for informal chats about post discharge care.
The small wards are great and there are showers and toilets in each ward and opening windows to get fresh air and the ward temperature was not too hot as it was in the main building.
The operating theatres are adjacent to the wards and the theatre staff very reassuring just what you need.
What could be improved
Communication from the Doctors was ok but you had to ask all the questions as the info was not forthcoming. The Doctors could learn a lot from the nurses about talking to patients.
The food was so, so. Typical hospital food lacking taste.
Occasionally the medication rounds were a little disorganised and once or twice I had to ask for medications that had not been dispensed. Luckily these were just laxitives not serious medication. The nurses /doctors always seemed to be looking for certain patients notes as there were not kept at the bottom of the bed.
"Princes wing much much better than the main..."
