What I liked
The staff on A2 were warm and friendly, and as I arrived after being transferred from another hospital they quickly assessed me and admitted me to the ward. The staff nurse who did so was funny and made me feel very relaxed after a frightening afternoon and transferal. I arrived after the main meal had been served, but the nurse found sandwiches, yoghourt and fruit for me, which was greatly appreciated as the last food I had was breakfast.
The bay was very clean, roomy and it was easy to be private if required. Meals and drinks were good. Water was changed and topped up as often as I could drink it!
The doctors were easy to talk to, and all the staff were kind, available when required, and helped with opening food packets if needed - not easy to do with one arm in a sling!
I also liked that the morning staff opened the window to let fresh air in...it was a nice touch.
There were some great personalities on the ward which helped put the patients at ease.
The follow up appointment was speedy, and there was no wait for the wound dressing to be changed. The staff in out-patients were also friendly, helpful and efficient.
What could be improved
As I was one handed, it was difficult to wash properly, and still had dried blood on my hand when I left after 4 days. The drip tubes on my right hand hung down, so I felt it was not very hygenic when using the toilet. In the end I asked a staff member to tape them upwards on my hand so they did not drop down into the bowl of the loo when wiping. Perhaps staff could be asked to help patients with washing/toilet needs as required?
Anything else?
I was very fortunate in being transferred to A2 as the care I received was superb and I would like to thank all the staff - doctors, nurses, drinks trolley, admin, cleaners - for making my stay as relaxed and comfortable as possible, for mending my wound with such precision (it has healed brilliantly!). Thank you all very much indeed.
"Great care, high standards, wonderful staff."
