"i dread the time i have to set foot in a hospital..."

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

What I liked

my son had to be seen after having an injury to his left ring finger whilst playing football, he was extremely nervous at the prospect of being put to sleep for the procedure as he has an aversion to hospitals, needles, blood etc and he has previously been physically sick when once visiting someone. upon arrival to the ward we were greeted by a staff nurse who immediately put my son at ease. They sensed my son (aged 12) was extremely nervous and explained every possible outcome of what lay ahead in a totally un-patronising and easy to understand manner. They gave us attention constantly and i think without this complete fantastically caring and reassuring approach my son would have found his ordeal a lot harder to cope with. we cannot thank this nurse enough. They personally restored my faith in the nhs. unfortunately these staff nurses are too few and far between

What could be improved

the attitude by the "Dr" who bombastically walked in to the room waving the consent form about going on about putting a wire down my sons finger to fuse the bone back together, all of which had thankfully been mentioned by the staff nurse earlier, as it had not been discussed by anyone else. We were practically accused of lying when we said we thought we were only coming for his finger to be further looked at with the possibility of it needing to be straightened under anaesthetic. needless to say my son became quite nervous and frightened again

Anything else?

on the whole the care my son eventually got was fantastic. we appreciate the amount of people through the doors but it seemed only some nurses occasionally would apologise at the amount of time we had to wait. peoples time is important to everyone not only drs.
