"Superb, respectful care for my father at Raigmore"

About: County Community Hospital / Geriatric Assessment Raigmore Hospital / General Medicine Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service

(as a relative),

My 85 year old father who suffers from dementia and has been in Raigmore twice in the last few months, was admitted with an unknown infection which responded well to antibiotics. Unfortunately the night before discharge he had an internal bleed and required six pints of blood.

Dr Wilson is a truly unique consultant. He phoned me at home to discuss the set back and future care. All staff were superb and gave dad really individual high quality medical and nursing care.

During his acute phase the medical staff kept me fully informed of all his care and the reasons why they were doing things. The nursing staff were always respectful to dad and myself.

He spent a total of ten weeks in hospital. I can not fault any aspect of his care and have nothing but praise for Dr Wilson and his team. If anyone in Raigmore deserves a gold medal it is Dr Wilson on ward 5.

Dear Maggieanne

How kind of you to take the time to feed-back about the recent care your father received in Raigmore Hospital. Ten weeks is a long time for your dad to have been in hospital. I am reassured that you felt the team were able to do all that they could to look after your dad and keep you fully informed. I like your description of Dr Wilson "A truly unique consultant" and part of his skills, abilities and charm is he is always the first to recognise and foster team working. It's so pleasing, therefore, for you to also praise so highly the nursing team and other staff.

There is a lot of focus on how we look after people with dementia in hospital and so I am sure there are some things we can still improve on. If there is anything else you would like to let us know about please feel free to get in touch with me maimie.thompson@nhs.net 01463 704722.

Kindest regards

Maimie
