"Recovery is not easy and 3 months isn't going to fix it"

I would like to say that some of the services within this department are fantastic, so although this is a generally negative report, it's not all bad.

My story is of my experience with CMHT and the Eating Disorder Service in 2 different counties.

When I was first diagnosed with anorexia the service offered to me was brilliant. I was offered therapies and groups and really given that much needed support. Unfortunately this only last around 3 months before I was discharged in order to go to University.

Although I was then not really given much support whilst at uni ( I did keep myself very much to myself) when I did have a big relapse and needed hospital treatment and follow up appointments, again the services were amazing and very supportive.

Here's the negative bit of my story...

It was decided I was to leave university and come home as I was no longer deemed well enough to be living alone. When I got home I went straight to the Dr to get referred back to the service and was immediately given an assessment. However after this assessment, to my amazement I received a letter, which essentially stated as I had previously been with the service and hadn't 'recovered' they didn't see the need in offering me any more help! My parents and my dr were furious and confused but the service would not budge. So 5 months later, I have managed to stay out of hospital but that's about the only positive thing I could say.

I think this is an appalling way to treat an eating disorder patient, as recovery is not easy and 3 months isn't going to fix it.

I am writing this because I'm not the only person I know to have had a bad experience with these services and I think it needs to be made known that, yes the NHS is in debt and needs to be more tight on who they treat but It's also there for a reason, so that when we need it, it's there.
