(as the patient),

Following an incident on the in January 2012, where I ruptured the artery in my right arm from falling through a glass door, I was attended to very quickly by police and paramedics and taken to A&E at Raigmore Hospital.

Mr. Wolf, Vascular Surgeon and his team replaced the artery in my arm with a vein from my leg. I believe I was in surgery for 7 hours and required blood transfusions.

I was then admitted to ITU and to Ward 5C. Mr. Wolf is a brilliant vascular surgeon, and his patient care and concern is exceptional. He saved my life and my arm!

My experience at Raigmore Hospital and the aftercare from nurses, physiotherapists and my own GP Dr. Henderson at Riverside practice has been of such good quality, and I was always treated with kindness and dignity. I am eternally grateful.

I have spent most of my life in Africa and still am amazed how lucky we are in the united Kingdom to have such good quality health-care, and it is free!

As I was reading your story I had range of emotions. Really sorry to hear of your accident which must have been so frightening. But then so reassuring to know that when you needed emergency service and the skill, dedication and care of our highly professional staff (including ambulance colleagues) they were there for you. Your words and experience describe far better than I ever could all that is amazing about the NHS, exemplified here, by our own local teams.

You describe not only that they saved your life and arm but that you were treated with dignity and kindness. It is so good to hear from you such high praise and I will be delighted to feed back to staff. Getting all of this right is so important to NHS Highland.

A common thing that we hear from people who have lived abroad is how lucky we are into have such good quality health-care, and it is free!

I do hope you are keeping well and thank you again for boosting our morale.
