"Sleepless night in hospital"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Acute assessment unit

(as the patient),

I was taken to the Hospital in Larbert, from Stirling because I felt unwell. I was put into a little side room to avoid attention. I had the usual blood pressure, blood test and heart monitor.

I was in there for 4 hours and wasn’t once asked if I wanted anything to eat or drink. I finally had to ask for a cup of tea and a sandwich.

I was then moved to an assessment ward where I stayed until about midnight—then moved back to the side room. There were no doors only curtains, the lady next to me coughed all night and the two patients next to her were snoring. The nurse’s room was right next to me, I could hear every word they were saying. The phone went all night looking for beds—I hardly slept a wink.

You build a lovely hospital with all the latest equipment, but I hope I never have to go back in, it was a nightmare, for me

We have two assessment areas it would be great to know if you were in Acute Assessment Unit or Clinical Assessment Unit. I also wondered where the first part of your stay at Forth Valley Royal had taken place?

I thought it might be useful to send you a general reply to your posting, our admission areas are assessment areas where patients move from to an inpatient bed as appropriate this is the reason they have curtains. Our assessment areas are busy and not ideal for patients who are staying overnight. As you said there is a large amount of communication between this department and ward areas, so it can be very noisy.

Its been useful for you to highlight that the telephone and nursing staff contributed to noise, this is something we should be able to address.
