"Rushed consultation at fertility clinic"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

The clinic was running late and it was the end of the day. As it was a consultant's appointment it was meant to last 20 minutes so I thought there would be more space to gather more information but we were rushed along.

The doctor was flustered. They explained the process which was helpful, but at no point asked us to tell them how our experience had been or even what our story was. It felt very impersonal and as though our opinions and understanding of our relationship and own bodies was not important.

When we tried to explain how things were with us we were often cut off and dismissed in a patronising manner. The whole experience was anything but therapeutic as we left feeling angry, tearful and horrified at the lack of basic human to human connection and care.

They referred me for repeat blood tests, failing to mention that day 21 is only relevant to a 28 day cycle. Luckily I know this and have made appropriate arrangements. This is quite an oversight for a consultant I thought.
