I am nearly 65 and I am terrified of the dentist. I had only been 2 times is in neary 18 years. I have always disliked the dentist but about 25 years ago I went to a dentist in Leeds and they left my face so damaged I had to have surgery to repair my face. I later found this dentist had been struck off.
Well, I had been having tooth ache and about 6 months ago I went to then dentist in Driffield (on main street), I was stood outside talking myself into going in. When I finally did, it was closed that afternoon. I know it sounds silly but I was so relieved, even though I was still in pain. I went home and had some more pain killers.
A week later I was still in pain so I rang the NHS help line and I arranged to go back to the Driffield Dentist.
When I got there I was seen by a dentist called Lorna and she was fantastic, I told her I was terrified and was very understanding, she treated me with respect and said all I had to do was raise my hand when I wanted her to stop. We could then have a break before she started again.
I have had to go back a few times for fillings and each time Lorna has been absolutely fantastic. I am still frightened but she puts me at ease.
"NHS dentist in Driffield was absolutely fantastic "
