On Sunday, I fell off a ladder (which slipped as I was pruning a tall hedge). Although I managed to make my way back into my house and lay down for a couple of hours, I was still in pain so decided to call NHS-Direct for advice on whether it was better to keep moving or keep still. After a bit of questioning NHS direct told me to stay still and they were sending an ambulance. I was taken to Stafford Hospital A&E and I couldn't have had better attention. From the ambulance crew, nurses, doctors and X-ray department I was never left alone for very long and every person I saw was pleasant and attentive - even the receptionist who allowed me to use her phone to call my neighbour and eventually, phoned for a taxi when I was released about three hours later - having determined that I'd fractured a vertebrae.
I have nothing but compliments for Stafford A&E and shall be sending a donation to their fundraising department.
