"Going round in circles with district nursing"

About: Adult community services / District nursing

(as the patient),

Absolutely diabolical - I have made nine telephone calls in two days and still don't have an appointment.

My GP's practice gave me a number and I left a message, which was not returned. I left another message the next day, also not returned. I looked on NHS Choices and rang the District Nursing number shown, only to get school nurses. They gave me a number for district nurses who told me they don't cover my address.

I was given another number and they told me they don't cover my GP's practice. At this point I protested that I had spoken to several teams and was going nowhere; they took my number and promised to call back.

I rang my GP's practice to ask for help and was told I probably didn't have the right number in the first place as the nurses covering the practice don't cover my address. I was also told the practice nurse is fully booked. When the call ended I had a voicemail message asking me to call back - the number given being the one I had rung first and left the first message for.

I left another message and have yet to hear anything.

Dear Miss snip, your posting has been discussed with the Manager responsible for the District Nursing Service who is most concerned to hear of the difficulties you have faced in trying to arrange an appointment with the District Nursing Service, for which we apologise.

District Nursing teams work in a locality structure and are aligned to specific GP Practices. However, what happens on some occasions, for example, if patients live outside the geographical locality for their own GP, they may be seen by a different District Nursing team who will liaise with the patients GP.

We would very much like to be able to look into the concerns you have expressed and would appreciate it if you could contact either our Patient Services Department on 01709 424461 or Carole Lavelle, Head of Case Management on 01709 423382.

With best wishes,

Grace
