"being told i cannot get an appointment"

About: Dundee Dental Hospital

(as the patient),

I have been attending the dental hospital for many years as I had oral cancer. I saw Mr Allan every six months, and now he is retired. I phoned up to make an appointment, as I need new magnets put in my denture and my implants checked. The receptionist told me to go to another dentist! I couldn't believe her! I have never missed one appointment in all these years. I'm desperate to get my treatment done.

The consultant who was treating you in the past has now retired. All those patients who were in the middle of their treatment have been reallocated to a different consultant. Those patients who require a review appointment will be seen in due course as a new consultant has been appointed and takes up his post in September.

Patients who contact the Dental Hospital because they have developed a problem are being advised to see their own dentist in the first instance and their case notes are being reviewed by a senior hospital consultant. If they are in pain or discomfort and currently are not registered with a dentist then they are welcome to attend the Dental A&E walk-in clinic, arriving between 9 and 11 am and 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

We apologise if this information was not made clear to you when you contacted the hospital.
