"Failure of good and standard practice"

After a relative recently attended a scheduled appointment at St Lukes Hospital, Bradford (several hours late as the pre-booked ambulance didn't turn up), they were greeted by what they felt were arrogant staff including a receptionist and a nurse.

They had a student commence and conduct the appointment. My relative felt they assumed they knew more than the consultant, by dismissing what my relative had previously been told by theirs.

My relative was treated in an undignified and disrespectful manner from the moment they arrived. From the way they spoke to my relative in an unprofessional and arrogant manner to the fact that my relative had a blood sample taken in which the 'healthcare professional' did not wear gloves, did not apply a single use tourniquet, tried several times to retrieve blood ignoring the fact they were in fact hurting my relative and then did not wipe blood away after and left my relative to do this themself (don't worry, we took a photograph of this first) and several weeks on they still have a lump on their arm from this - which absolutely fails the best practice standards for blood collection, infection control and prevention, equality and diversity, need I go on? All of which are statutory and mandatory training for NHS staff, or maybe not in their case!

As Bradford Royal Infirmary has recently come under fire from the CQC maybe the trust should be making a bit more of an effort to comply with safety standards and train their staff to be a little bit more 'human'?
