"Ongoing problems after knee replacement surgery"

About: Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Royal Preston Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had knee replacement surgery in October 2011. Complications followed and the skin was not healing so I could not do exercises. When eventually the skin healed, six weeks later I could not bend my leg. Physiotherapy followed, then water therapy, and then knee manipulation under anesthetic after which I was attached to a continuous passive motion machine.

There was a complete lack of communication from my consultant, whom I found to be very dismissive and uncaring. The staff on the ward where I was attached to the cpm machine did not know how to use it and I was left without any instruction.

Finally I was told I would need to have more surgery, this was in March 2012, and I am still waiting to hear from the hospital.

This has impacted greatly on my life, I am a person who always looks on the positive side of things. At the moment I feel very depressed, I have contacted the hospital who said I would have to wait 18 weeks, I was devastated, I had been given to believe I would be seen within 18 weeks as I was an ongoing case.

Totally disillusioned, all I want to do is to be able to sit down in comfort!
