"My son's birth at Lister's new maternity unit"

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I had a very long and painful early labour and spent 5 days in various parts of the unit. The midwives on the MLU were absolutely brilliant; kind, understanding and very reassuring. I felt really well looked after during a scary time. My husband was also pleased with the care and reassurance we received.

When I was unavoidably transferred to the consultant led unit I was very distressed, but again, the kindness shown by the midwives was amazing. Our son was born in May and I will always look back fondly on our memories there. . . midwife Saskia was fab-couldn't have done it without her!

Although this comment has been posted against the QEII, it has also been posted against the Lister. The latter is correct because the Trust's inpatient maternity service is based at our new facility at the Lister, which was named officially as the Diamond Jubilee Maternity Unit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during a visit to the hospital on 14 June 2012. For clarity, here is the response we posted against the comment left against the Lister:

We've only just registered to see and respond to comments posted on Patient Opinion, so apologies for slow response - we normally come back to people within 24 hours of posting a comment on online services such as NHS Choices. So we're glad to have an opportunity to have a direct presence with Patient Opinion.

And what a lovely posting to start off with - having a baby is rarely stress-free and it sounds like you had quite an ordeal. So we were delighted at just how well cared for you and your husband felt during your time on the Lister's maternity unit. We'll make sure that your kind words are fed back to the team - especially Saskia!
