My daughter was born at 26 week at the Sheffield Jessop wing hospital.
She was a spontaneous delivery and if Rotherham general hospital didn't act so quickly then the story would be a lot different. My daughter spent 3 week at Sheffield and then was transferred back to Rotherham which was a very emotional time seeing her being transferred and the fear of the unknown as I had just got used to the neonatal unit at Sheffield.
When we arrived at Rotherham they were absolutely fantastic and accommodated my daughter and I very well. They explained everything to me and were very friendly.
My daughter stayed at Rotherham for 3 months and they made my daughter what she is today, absolutely perfect. I breastfed for 7 weeks and unfortunately my flow disappeared. I was so emotional as I felt I was letting my daughter down especially with her being so tiny but after speaking with a dietitian and trying everything possible they put my daughter on formula milk suitable for premature babies. My daughter took well to the formula and the dietitian would check my daughters progress.
When we were finally discharged I was given a prescription for her milk and lots of information from the dietitian, they were only on the other end of the phone whenever I had any questions and so were the staff on the special care baby unit. I would ring the dietitian when I had my last tub of formula powder left and the prescription would arrive the next day they were very fast and efficient.
If it wasn't for the support of the staff that I received I wouldn't have been able to get through the 101 days my daughter stayed on the unit. The support and care that the staff had for my little girl and I was absolutely outstanding and I appreciate every little thing they did for my little girl.
"Amazing support from special care baby unit"
