"My stay at Tameside General Hospital"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I got admitted to the hospital late at night. I was in a&e for 4 and a half hours and then I got moved to the MAU in the early hours of the morning. I was left there until early evening the following day. Whilst I was in the waiting room in MAU none of the staff came to see if I was ok, or offer me food or drink. I wasn't able to sit down properly in the chair as I was in agony. I wasn't even offered any pain killers or any other tablets to relieve my pain.

When a nurse came in the room she told me I would be moving to a ward within the next two hours and walked off before I could ask for any pain relief or a drink.

Then when I finally got put on my ward all the nurses was nice and offered me food and drink and pain relief, apart from one. One night I was in so much pain I couldn't sleep, so I pressed my buzzer for the nurse too come, it took her at least 20 minutes before she come to my bed, when I then asked her if I could have some pain relief, she walked off and hadn't returned within 30 minutes so I looked over to the right and she was sat there eating biscuits!

So I then buzzed my buzzer again and she came over and I asked if I could have some pain relief and she said that she had been to ask my nurse and I was allowed some but never came back to give me some!! Also because of the visiting hours my dad wasn't able to see me, he rang up and asked if it would be ok if he came at a certain time as I am his daughter, and only 16 years old!!

He got told that he could come until the dinners was brought round so he came and when he got there the nurse was refusing to let him come and see me, he explain that he had rang up and that he hadn't been able to see me and she said he could see me for 5 minutes, and soon as he had been at my bed for 5 minutes, she came over and asked him to leave, which I was not happy about after being told I would be able to see him until dinner time after not seeing him for nearly a week!

I was in for a week and saw 3 different doctors. One I only saw once, the other two I saw two times or more. One of the doctors told me I could go home, but if I didn't go home I would have to have a minor operation, ( I don't understand why I would be allowed home if a minor operation was needed), so I stayed in as I knew I was in no fit state to go home, so then the following day the other doctor came to see me and I asked him about me going home or this operation, he then told me that I am not allowed home under any circumstances as I needed atleast 3 more tests done before I had this operation and then take at least 4 days to recover before they would even think about sending me home.

The next day the doctor who told me I could go home came to see me again and I asked about the operation. I got told I would be going for the previous day and he said that this was no longer needed and told me I could go home again. They never told me what it was and let me go home unable to walk properly and still in major pain.

By the time I had walked to the entrance I was so tired and out of breath but couldn't face going back into Tameside General Hospital, so my dad had to drive to the entrance to pick me up as I was unable to get my breath. Later that day I had to be rushed back to hospital, where I asked to be taken to Oldham Hospital as I refused to go back to TGH because of the way I was treated there.

Also I found the food appalling and I didn't eat whilst I was in there, and none of the nurses seemed to care that me and another lady on the same ward wasn't eating.
