"Excellent care at Warrington Hospital A&E"

About: Warrington Hospital / Accident and emergency Warrington Hospital / Cardiology

(as a relative),

I took my Mum to the A&E department after she suffered chest pain and breathing difficulties following the death of her father earlier in the day.

Unfortunately she was suffering from a heart attack. The clinical staff in A&E were superb. Not only did they provide my mum with excellent care especially when her condition worsened, they were also very accommodating of my family and me and were very clear about explaining what was happening, what they were investigating and what they were doing for my mum.

Two nurses (Nigel and Mark) deserve special mention for the superb way they looked after my mum. She was also given excellent care on the Cardiac Care Unit when she moved there.

My only issue was with the A&E receptionist when I arrived. My mum was in the car directly outside A&E but was unable to walk into the department. I went into A&E and asked for help but the receptionist said nobody could help to bring her in. When I asked whether I needed to call an ambulance to bring her the 10 yards to the front door, the receptionist very dismissively pointed me in the direction of a wheel chair and the corner and told me to wheel her in myself.

However I wouldn't want that to detract too much from the excellent clinical care provided by the team.
