"The terrific support I obtained during a recent acute event"

About: County Hospital / Mental Illness Maindiff Court Hospital / Mental Illness

(as the patient),

I was very anxious and not sleeping. I was becoming depressed and crying a lot. I said to my wife one Saturday morning you better look after my tablets.

I went back to bed and she immediately contacted the out of hours GP. We had to drive quite a long way to see her but she was incredibly understanding and arranged for me to see the duty psychiatrist later the same day.

After a long and tearful interview she changed my medication, gave me some sleeping medication and arranged for me to be looked after by the home treatment team.

The home treatment team visited me the next day and several times thereafter. They also arranged for me to see a consultant psychiatrist.

I thought the whole support process was brilliant - apart from having to drive quite a lot to get to the various appointments - it really encouraged me and my wife that there was light at the end of the dark tunnel I was in.

I am not fully well yet but the standard of care and support I have received has given me more confidence.
