"My husband's treatment at Queen's Medical Centre"

A positive experience of care even though outcome not. Took husband to A&E when he drove car into hedge and could not remember why and what happened. A&E responded well, lots of tests but no conclusion. Transferred to assessment ward B3 - numerous tests no real answers but very well cared for. Did need to push for info but they responded.

He recovered well but because no diagnosis kept him in and 5 days later at 9pm transferred him to orthopaedic ward until bed available on neurology. (Did that contribute to what happened?)

3am he had a massive brain stem stroke, was transferred to ICU and died two days later. Care there was amazing and staff brilliant and so caring. I don't blame anyone but I am sad I didn't know why such a healthy man (59) should have suffered this and no one saw it coming.

We were pleased to see that the hospital has offered to help you to find out more about what happened to your husband and hope that this will be helpful for you. We wanted to let you know about the Stroke Association and ways that we may be able to support you at this time. We provide a Stroke Helpline that can give information, advice and support to people who have had a stroke and to their families. Our Helpline Officers, although not medically trained, can help to explain about the possible causes of a stroke and talk through any concerns or questions.
