"Dementia Care Review 1 year on Bryn Hesketh - Great Service"

About: Colwyn Bay Community Hospital / Old Age Psychiatry

(as a relative),

As a family, we recently attended Mum’s annual review at the memory clinic at Bryn Hesketh. This is the second annual review and Dr Obede took a great deal of time and care to look at the changes in Mum over the year. We had ample time to speak to Dr Obede whilst Mum was taken for an ECG and tests for cognition and activities of daily living. Medication was discussed and explained in great detail. We felt reassured by the review that Mum was doing as well as expected and we were fully involved in decisions.

Mum’s has great support and from Sandra Evans and Liz Jennings who provide valuable input and help to keep Mum living at home with the right support. All staff at the unit work hard to ensure the dignity of Mum is preserved for as long as possible. Staff at Bryn Hesketh have been excellent. From the receptionist to the hospital staff, all have gone out of their way to be freindly and welcoming.

I posted my first review a year ago and it has been viewed over 900 times but as Old Age Psychiatry doesn't subscribe to Patient Opinion my review has not been read or replied to directly. As I work in Patient and public involvement I forwarded this to the Unit and the CEO and staff read it and felt very positive about the review. It would be good for staff morale to have a subscription to get real time feedback that is open and public and can bring about positive change and service improvement.

Well done and thank you all for helping Mum and our family to cope with a difficult illness.
