I was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer last year. I had the operations in Derriford hospital, and the follow up care at North Devon. They are going to replace the temporary stoma. I’ve had excellent care since I was diagnosed.
My bowel habits changed, and I went to my GP, who thought it might be a few different things, and we tried a few solutions, but nothing helped. I got referred to North Devon for a colonoscopy. They immediately found the tumour and I went straight into rounds of operations and chemotherapy.
I prefer visiting North Devon, if I have the choice. The customer experience is better, and the care more reliable. It’s smaller and I feel more human when I go there, rather than the large Derriford. The appointment letters are quick, whereas there are often delays in getting appointments from Derriford.
I feel that North Devon are definitely doing it right. They should expand the chemotherapy department, as it’s just been great.
