"Rude, unkind nurses and..."

About: Rotherham Hospital

What I liked

Leaving.

What could be improved

Attitudes of the staff- the nurses and doctors were rude and miserable. They were inconsiderate and I assume they must have thought I was a mind reader because they never once advised me on what was happening or the state of my son's injuries. They did not try to chat, smile or make me or my son feel at ease, we felt that we were an inconvenience. They were unorganised and I am disgusted with how we were treated, both in the A+E and in the fracture clinic. At one point, as my son awaited an X-ray, the doctor told me to come and find her when we were finished, I asked her where she would be and she said that she didn't know and we would just have to look round for her because she had other patients to see! I came away from the hospital feeling that I had been dealing with a bunch of incapable, unprofessional, and extremely unfriendly group of people.

One other thing that I would like to mention is the fact that over the space of two appointments in the fracture clinic, we were kept waiting a total of four and a half hours past our appointment time. What is the point of having an appointment?! Especially sat with a child, this is pathetic

Anything else?

The attitudes of the staff at this hospital needs dealing with. A bit of courtesy and kindness takes no effort- why are they in this job if they do not like dealing with people?

Dear elcee27

Thank you for taking the time to share your views with us on and we were very concerned to learn of your recent experiences on visiting our A&E department and our Fracture Clinic.

Your concerns relate largely to a doctor in A&E and the staff in fracture clinic on the subsequent day. As you so ably demonstrated this was in contrast with the A&E receptionist and X Ray staff whose attitude and assistance is absolutely what we expect of all our staff. We are so sorry that that wasn’t your experience throughout your son’s care.

Whilst we will share your feedback with the departments concerned we would really value you contacting us directly (via Patient Services on 01709 424461) to give us further details so that we can investigate and address this issue further to best effect.

With best wishes

Rebecca Allinson
