"Trip To A&E"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as the patient),

I had hurt my back while doing Martial Arts on the Monday and when it was still sore on the Wednesday my boss took me to Forth Valley A & E to have it checked out.

After an hour or two wait I was then treated by a doctor, possibly a junior. His name was Dr McClain (I think). He was very pleasant and made me feel very at ease especially since I was nervous anyway. He had a very calming manner and kept it simple rather than bombarding me with medical mumbo jumbo.

I have had bad experiences in hospitals before which is why I was apprehensive about going to A&E in the first place, but thanks to the young doctor and the nurse who had a chat with me, I felt more at ease.

A real credit to the NHS.

Thanks for your posting, it's great for staff to get positive feedback and to understand what really makes a difference to the patients experience of care. Your feedback has been shared with the department, in particular with the Dr you saw.

We know that communication and bedside manner is important, thanks for highlighting this to us.
