At an appointment with my GP regarding my antidepressants she mentioned, as a passing comment, that she had previous client who attended Phoenix Futures but she did not know what they did, what was offered or where they were based.
I was determined to enter into recovery so searched the internet, found Phoenix Futures and self referred.
Phoenix changed my life and indeed gave me the tools, support and help to carry on and maintain recovery. My demon is alcohol, it truly is the devil's brew. Although my GP and the surgery I go to is fantastic I feel let down by the lack of knowledge regarding recovery facilities regarding addiction. It was up to me to take charge of my recovery, and yes all addicts need to do that, but I feel if the information was offered to me earlier or even been available through the GP practice my journey on recovery would have been much sooner.
I am happy to report that Phoenix saved my life, I moved on to Bridging the Gap course, did a 12 week allocation at ADS and attend an amazing group called R.U.T.R.A.P.P.E.D based in Stretford. Some people might not have my determined personality and slip though the net but if information was available they may take on recovery.
