The day arrived. It was bright and sunny in my part of North Ayrshire as I set off for the 1 hour drive to The Ayr Hospital. The 'interwebbything' had primed me as to what to expect during the procedure. (It also suggested that a lot of men of my age tended to ignore all things prostate, willy and dodgy plumbing - Not Me!)
So! Arrived at reception on time (nice welcome too), 10 minute seat and then the Nurse doing the procedure came to get me (We'll call her Lorna). We talked on the way to the undressing area and, after telling me which gowns to wear (and which way round!) she asked if I would mind a Student Nurse sitting in. No problem.
I won't go into any detail on the procedure (available on your favourite video clip channel) but overall it took about an hour. Lorna described everything she was about to do - explaining to the Student as she went on - "This might nip a wee bit!" (Love that word 'nip') Indeed it did. Together (this to me is really important) we collectively carried out all the tests, had a great laugh and soon it was all over.
Several messages here:
1. Once again, The Ayr Hospital has not let me down.
2. The 2 Nurses went out of their way to put me at ease and preserve my dignity at all time.
3. They involved me in their discussions and deliberations.
4. If any other Man has prostate/urology problems and is due to start investigation, fear not, you are in good hands here.
