"Terrible, upsetting and I feel very lucky to have..."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

Occasionally you were lucky to get a very nice member of staff who genuinely cared about the patients and the babies.

What could be improved

The whole of the maternity assesment unit, this unit is appaling as is the attitude of some of the staff.

Waiting area in MAU

Treatment of women in labour who are not progressing as they would like.

The time it takes to get anti bitoics to patients who are admitted with bad infections.

The whole place is filthy.

There is a language barrier with some consultants, who cannot speak very clear English and take offence if asked to repeat.

Some staff are not honest (Saying that private rooms are full, when inspected they were all empty MAU)

Anything else?

I intend to write a formal complaint, but it will be very long and has so far taken me 7 months to write.

I think that they get away with a lot, because a mum (usually) leaves the hospital with a beauiful baby, and the poor care they were given goes to the back of there mind. Occasionally, like me it will remain etched on my mind forever as the worse care I have ever received.

I had my baby on 20/11/2011.

We understand there are some concerns with MAC in terms of waiting and capacity and we are working hard to resolve the problems.

We do take cleanliness seriously within our unit and audit alongside our domestic services regularly. If anyone finds an area unclean then we appreciate this being highlighted at the time, so we can fix the problem as soon as possible.

We would welcome the opportunity to investigate your concerns fully and provide a detailed response to you. If this is something that you're interested in, please contact our Patient Information and Liaison Service (PILS) free on 08081 788 337.
