(as the patient),

I have been going to a hospital in Liverpool because I have severe epilepsy, and have been going to the hospital for 12 years and I have always been picked up by an ambulance.

I live in Wigan which is quite away from Liverpool. I was due an appointment and I get a call from the North West ambulance service the day before saying they can’t pick me up anymore because I can get on an ambulance by myself. So I phoned the hospital and said I can’t make it because of the ambulance service cant pick me up, the person I spoke to was shocked. Because of this experience, I will never trust the North West ambulance service anymore.

The North West Ambulance Service is sorry to hear of your recent difficulty in accessing transport. Our Service does not deal with requests for non-urgent transport directly from members of the public. Initially requests for this type of transport are considered by other Health Professionals (e.g. GP’s, PCT booking centres, Hospitals). An assessment of need is based by following strict eligibility guidelines.

It is difficult to comment further on your own particular experience without examining this specific incident in closer detail.
