"Poor communication with relatives in hospital. "

About: Hull Royal Infirmary / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as a friend),

My friend is currently in ward 11 Hull Royal Infirmary.

Whilst basic physical nursing care is satisfactory the nursing staff seem unable and reluctant to update us on the simplest of information in relation to her progress or otherwise. She is clearly not improving.

The nurses say they are unable to give any detail on medical progress.

Whilst this may be the case they have a duty of care to the patient's relatives to keep them updated and should ensure that the medical staff are contacted and arrangements made for them to meet to discuss the plan of care and treatment.

Many thanks for placing your posting on the Patient Opinion website. We are sorry to read of your recent experience and we will ensure that the staff concerned are made aware. Please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Team on telephone number (01482) 623065 who would be willing to help you. However, please be aware that the patient's consent would be required before any medical information etc could be obtained and discussed. I would suggest that a member of the family speak with the nursing staff and request that an appointment be obtained for a member of the medical team to meet with them, providing the patient is in agreement.
