"Our experience of A &E + Quince ward at Barnet Hospital"

About: Barnet Hospital / Accident and emergency Barnet Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

A & E - actual treatment was very slow but ultimately fine, with the following provisos :-

Felt there was poor communication from the staff who treated us to patient/patients carer (myself)- what was happening? What was next step? How long were we likely to have to wait?

Seen by 2 Doctors - why? What was role of each? Should have been explained. Not easy to see what roles of individual A & E workers were - too many different uniforms/no explanation of who was who. Many, many people working in the department (which didn't have many patients to deal with whilst we were there) - we saw many just chatting among themselves (about non-work topics) or doing paperwork or working on computer.

Hard to get help for my very elderly mother re drink of water (she was very dehydrated & on a saline drip) & extra blanket - she was cold. She needed a commode - they DIDN'T HAVE ONE AVAILABLE!

Quince Ward - welcome was exceptionally warm, caring & attentive. All staff encountered were kind, sympathetic, warm & helpful. Each said who they were & what their role on the ward was. I think this is very important. I would like to thank each of them (from orderlies to nursing staff) for their warmth, efficiency & sympathetic approach
