What I liked
The ward was clean and spacious and the shower facilities were good. That is about it.
What could be improved
I have just come out of hospital after spending 2 nights in Ward 10 and am still distressed at the way I was treated by the registrar, doctor and a couple of the nurses.
From the start I was dismissed by the registrar as having constipation, even though I stated that I was definitely not constipated and had an ongoing issue (I had been seeing a private doctor and had shown them his notes). Every time I questioned her she became horribly defensive and dismissive and ended up storming out leaving me in tears, luckily she did all of this in front of my mother so I had a witness. She said I was fine and that I could go home, but I was on a huge amount of painkillers and was still in considerable pain so they said that I could stay in to try and regulate it. The next day I was woken up to be told I was leaving, none of the action my other doctor suggested had been taken, I was still in a lot of pain and had had a bad reaction to 2 of the painkillers they had given me at the same time. I was very tearful and told the doctor that I didn't feel I had been listened to, at which point he became very defensive and basically told me it was tough and they weren't gong to do anything more for me. As he was telling me this I was sobbing my heart out, he and 3 nurses just stood there and looked at each other as if I was an idiot. I was then discharged with the combination of painkillers I had the reaction to, when I asked for the name of the registrar I was asked why I wanted it and dismissed.
The whole experience was humiliating and distressing. I have been in and out of North Tyneside General the past few weeks and they have been amazing. The staff at Wansbeck were unkind and did not listen one bit, I feel very emotional as have been ill for 6 weeks now, I cannot get over how badly I have been treated. Other people on the ward mentioned they were having the same problems. I am disgusted.
"Horrible experience."
